Annual Registration Time

It is once again time to re-register for both adults and youth members of Troop 2.  Payment for registration is due by 12/14/09 for all Troop members.    Payments received after that date run the risk of a lapse in membership.

Please note that we will be keeping the registration cost the same as last year, even though BSA has raised their cost of registration by a total of $6 per individual.  We will probably not be able to keep our costs down again next year.  Please make checks payable to Troop 2 Weymouth in the amount of $20 for adult members and $40 for youth members.  Please get you payment to Mr. Keenan or Mr. Schneider as soon as possible.

Checks can be mailed directly to the clubhouse:

Bottles & Cans

As you know we collect returnable bottles and cans to raise funds for our programs.

We also can use any beer boxes to sort and return glass bottles to the redemption center.

Please keep an eye out for these, and if you have some, drop them at the clubhouse. You can leave them whole, or remove glue and tape and collapse them - either way they're a big help.

Note - we can only use 24 bottle boxes, not wine boxes or other cardboard.

Thank You for your continued support.

Can you help us ?

The Troop is looking for someone who is good with words and would be willing to help us with some of our publicity and public relations efforts.  We can provide the details and facts - can you put it into an interesting and coherent article?

We would like to increase our profile within the community by getting stories published in the local papers.  Our boys do a lot of great stuff, but we need help getting the word out.

Please let me know if you can help. Contact me via email

Flag Retirement and Turkey Dinner recap (w/ pics)

Thank you to all that joined us at Valley Pines this weekend.  We estimate about 120 brave souls enjoyed the day with us.  Thanks to all those that made the day possible - those that shopped, cooked, cleaned, and worked to make the event the success it was.  The food was fantastic and the weather was not as bad as predicted.

Troop 2 in the News

The Weymouth News (see the article) mentioned Dan and his Eagle Project:
While driving on Central Street in South Weymouth you may have noticed some frantic activity and great changes to the Girl Scout house at 55 Central Street. Daniel McMahon, a South Weymouth Boy Scout with Troop 2, has been working on improving the appearance of the house for his Eagle project. After raising funds through a weekend car wash, Dan with the help of Troop 2 Boys Scouts and their families, sanded, scraped and completely repainted the exterior of the building. Dan and the volunteers also constructed a new cement walkway and made repairs to the front entrance handicap ramp. The improved look of the house and repairs took hours of preparation and work and is greatly appreciated by the Girl Scouts and their leaders.

What is Veterans Day and why do we march?

Veterans Day is more than a holiday from school and work, and more than an excuse for parade. On Veterans Day we recognize the service and sacrifice of the members of our Armed Forces – our soldiers, sailors and airmen who give up their time, risking their lives to assure we continue to live in a free society. They defend and protect our constitutional rights, and serve as our strength both in this country and abroad.

Veterans Day started as Armistice Day – recognizing the end of World War 1 – called “The Great War” and “The War to End All Wars”. The significance of the day itself relates to the day the treaty to end hostilities in that war was signed, which was on the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day, of the eleventh month. After World War 2 this day was changed to recognize all veterans, not just those of the First War, and on this day we humbly and solemnly thank those service members, who serve both in peacetime and in war.

Observances for the day include a parade, where we march alongside the veterans, with other groups, all honoring their service and sacrifice. We bring our flags and drum corps, and we respectfully march the parade route to the amphitheater next to Town Hall, where the names of the dead from Weymouth are inscribed in remembrance of their sacrifices.

So, when we march, be sure to acknowledge the veterans you see along the parade route. Nod, salute, or simply say Thank You. They served our country, and preserved our way of life.
