As a reminder, Troop 2 operates independently of any monetary resources from Old Colony Council and the Boy Scouts of America. We are a self funded organization, raising our own monies via donations and the bottle and cans redemption programs to support the troop activities. The Weymouth Heights Club, our sponsoring organization, also supports Troop 2, Pack 2, and Girl Scouts Troop 74383 through local fundraising efforts.
If you are interested in donating to support your scout, please consider a direct donation to the Weymouth Heights Club. The WHC is a nonprofit organization, and your donations may be tax deductible. Your donations directly benefit the scout programs sponsored by the Weymouth Heights Club. Corporate matching is a fantastic way to increase your donation, and donations of equipment and volunteer time are also greatly appreciated.

Event Report: Swim Night and 4/19/10 Meeting
The Troop enjoyed a great swim night last Sunday. The event was attended by over 25 boys with several adult leaders swimming and many parents watching. A class on water rescues was run, showing the boys how to help a swimmer in trouble. Later the boys broke into teams and competed in a relay race on foam boards.
The next night was a Troop meeting with drum practice before. Nick led Andrew, Antonio, DJ, Joe, Matt W, Mitch, PK and Tim M. With the Memorial Day Parade approaching, the practices are very important. Drummers need to attend practices in order for the Corps to continue being a success.
During the meeting Mr. Kelley reviewed some important first aid skills in preparation for our May hike. The boys practiced improvised splinting, building and carrying a makeshift stretcher and then using a backboard to transport an accident victim.

Report: Valley Pines Campout - 4/10/2010
This campout was attended by a dozen or so of our scouts. The senior scouts for the weekend were AJ and Tyler. The weather was clear and dry - very nice actually. The senior scouts worked on Totin’ Chip with the two of the newest scouts. The scouts got our campfire going as well as our cook fire, while Mr. Kelley prepared an event for the afternoon.
After lunch Mr. Kelley explained the orienteering activity that they would be doing. The boys were partnered up and equipped with directions and a compass. The teams of boys had to work their way to a hidden "prize pack" that was about a half mile from the starting point. The boys had to estimate their total round trip time and then following the heading and distances provided by Mr. Kelley. Every team eventually found the prizes and some did very well on estimating their time.
After nightfall the boys did a couple of skits around the campfire and finished the evening with a few games of manhunt.
We woke to temperatures in the low 50's. the boys made quick work of cleaning up the campgrounds and by 8am everyone was on their way home.
Thanks to the Dads that chaperoned the campout.

Report: April 5th Meeting
Weymouth's own Officer Barry (a former Boy Scout) spent the evening with us this week. He talked with our scouts on various issues related to substance abuse, it's lasting impact on their life and those around us. Officer Barry gave a good talk including how he has personally seen the affects that drugs and alcohol can have on a young man's life. To further underscore his message, Officer Barry also brought another guest speaker who was able to speak from his personal experiences in battling his addictions. Hopefully all our scouts left with a renewed sense of awareness.
The Troop thanks the speakers and the Weymouth Police Department for there help.

Report: Herring Run Cleanup - 4/3
It was a beautiful day to be outside and help the community. Troop 2 joined forces with many other community groups and individuals to cleanup and restore Weymouth's Herring Run, in preparation for the herring return to Whitman's pond around April 15. The scouts were assigned sections of the Herring Run on Iron Hill Street. Equipped with rakes, saws and loppers; the boys worked well together cleaning trash and cutting back the overgrowth. The amount of debris that the Troop 2 crew managed to clear was impressive. A photographer from the Weymouth News snapped of few pictures of our guys, so hopefully we will see those in the paper. Thanks go out to all the scouts and dads that participated.
