Reminders:

1. Scouts working on the Citizenship in the Nation merit badge  have the following homework assignments due by the Jan. 7th meeting.

Homework 1 - Due Dec 10th

Scouts should watch the national evening news or read the front section of a major daily newspaper for the week, and will choose one national issues. They will need to explain how it affects them and their family in a short paragraph, which will be discussed in our class meeting.

Homework 2 - Due Dec 17th

Write a letter about a national issue (can be the issue used for Homework 1) directed to one of our elected officials in Congress (Senator Scott P. Brown; Senator John F. Kerry; Representative Stephen Lynch or Representative Bill Keating) sharing your view. This letter must be shown to your counselor at the class meeting.

2. Bottle and Can sorting - Thursday evenings: 7 PM WHC Garage – Processing returnables for redemption - We need adult volunteers to help with this program, as this is our fundraising source and assures costs are kept to a minimum. 

Assistance can be as simple as dropping off empty case boxes, helping sort, picking up the materials on Wednesdays, or dropping off materials at the redemption center.

Congratulations to Jordan B for completing his trail to Eagle!

Jordan is our third Eagle scout for this year, earning his rank during the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Eagle Scout award, which was established in 1912.
For his community service project Jordan performed extensive landscaping, as well as adding a bench and a plaque honoring Mr. Emery at the Emery Estate behind the Weymouth Heights Club.

Jordan joins over 200 Eagle scouts from Troop 2, and will be awarded with his rank patch at our first meeting in January.  Our annual Awards and Recognition Dinner and Eagle Court of Honor will be held in May 2013 at Immaculate Conception Parish Center.

Troop 2 Holiday Party and Announcements

Tonight's meeting is our Holiday Party. Scouts should bring a $5.00 gift for the Yankee Swap, which should be scout related. No joke gifts are allowed. Bring a gift YOU would prefer to receive.

Scouts are also asked to bring a baked good or other tasty snack for the evening. Uniforms are not required - please wear a Class B Scout Troop T shirt (camp shirt)
We also have a special guest joining us for the meeting  who will tell us stories of his adventures since he was a Scout.
All monies for the Ski Trip ($135 for skiers, $35 for non-skiers) and all paperwork with parental signatures, details for rentals, etc  must be passed in at our meeting on 12/17. If you do not complete the paperwork and pass in a check your space is not reserved. There is a waiting list for this event.

There is no drum practice tonight.
 


Reminders

Citizenship in the Nation Homework Reminder

Announcement - Holiday Concert Saturday Night

Looking for something to do Saturday night while the scouts are camping out?

The Southeastern Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing at Immaculate Conception Church at 7:30 PM.

Doors open at 6:00 PM.

Admission is $15.00 for adults, $10.00 for seniors, and children 10 & under are free.

This is the 37th Annual Holiday Concert, presented by the North Weymouth Knights of Columbus, and this year marks the 97th season of the SPO, which has the distinct honor as the oldest continuous community orchestra in the United States.

Scouts working on the Citizenship in the Nation merit badge  began last night with discussion of what it means to be a citizen in a nation, what makes a good citizen, and what the rights, duties, and obligations of a responsible and active American citizen are.

Congratulations to Mitchel S for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout

Congratulations to Mitchel S for completing his trail to Eagle!

Mitch is our second Eagle scout for this year, and the second in his family, earning his rank during the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Eagle Scout award, which was established in 1912.
For his community service project Mitch restored a cement walkway and replaced telephone pole railings on a walking path at Pond Meadow Park in Braintree.
 
Mitch joins nearly 250 Eagle scouts from Troop 2, and was awarded with his rank patch this evening. Our annual Awards and Recognition Dinner and Eagle Court of Honor will be held in May 2013 at Immaculate Conception Parish Center.

Weekly Meeting Reminder - 12/3

Reminder - this evening there will be a uniform inspection - all scouts should report in FULL UNIFORM - this includes scout shirt, pants, belt, neckerchief and slide, notebook and pencil and scout handbook.

The ski trip sign up is closed - money will be due at our Holiday Party on Dec 17th.

Handouts for the weekend campout and the ski trip will be distributed at tonight's meeting.

We will also have a guest speaker this evening, several ongoing merit badge course, the kickoff for Citizenship in the Nation, and other surprises.

The meeting starts promptly at 7:30 PM, drum practice starts at 7 PM.
